The Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course forms part of the mandatory basic safety training for all seafarers.

The course deals with good practice and precautions for preventing fires aboard ship, examining how fires start and initial available means of extinguishing them.

Also included is practical training in the use of fire fighting equipment and the use of breathing apparatus for fire fighting and rescue.

Pre- Course Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18
  • Medically fit and healthy – Candidates will need to complete a medical declaration form.

Course Delivery

A mixture of theoretical classroom sessions and demonstrations mixed with practical sessions.

Candidates will use portable fire fighting equipment, fire hoses, fixed installations and breathing apparatus to tackle a number of different fire situations.

Assessment and Certification

Continuous practical assessment with full and active debriefing of exercises.

Following successful completion of the course an MCA approved STCW certificate (STCW A-VI/1-2) will be issued.
